Seaxnéat
by Swain Wodening
Seaxneat
is only mentioned in two sources. One is a renuciation formula that had
to be performed by the Saxons before baptism where he is listed with
Woden (Odin) and Thunor (Thor). The other is in the genealogies of the
kings of Essex. Scholars because of this have often linked him to Tiw,
assuming he must have been an important deity to be place beside two of
the greater deities. A few have argued that he may be Frea (Freyr). His
name means "sword friend."
