The Ancestors
Respect for the ancestors is an important part of Anglo-Saxon Heathenry, Asatru, and any form of Germanic Heathenry, but especially so for Theodism. That they were actively worshiped we know from the Penitential of Theodore: "He
who causes grains to be burned where a man has died, for the health of
the living and of the house, shall do penance for five years." People
were often named for a revered ancestor as was the case with Helgi Hundingsbana I and Helgi Hundingsbana II. Ancestors are often toasted in symbel and sometimes in worship.
