Zorochristianity
Zorochristianity has come out of a belief that the English and European peoples are facing very difficult times and that they must have a religious culture that can match the needs of these times. We believe that the Christian tradition that has come down to us is not as strong and suitable as it could be and that a radical reformation is required.
Nevertheless we recognize the huge amount of wisdom and richness of thought and practice in the established tradition which could not easily be replaced from scratch even if we wanted to and so we do not wish to turn our backs on it all.
However our new starting point for the reformed Christianity is with the figure of Zoroaster, an Iranian who likely lived some centuries before figures like Socrates, Gotama Buddha and Jesus Christ. Zoroaster is known to history as the father of ethical philosophy and post-pagan religion, and his ideas have had a great influence on the development of later religions including Christianity.
Zoroaster may seem a mystical figure to many in the West, but in fact his original words have been transmitted down the ages and it is possible to get a good picture of what he thought. Many of his ideas will already by familiar to Christians even if they did not know their origin before. Thus Zorochristians regard Zoroaster as the effective founder and grandfather of Christianity. We believe that the idea that Christianity was born out of the religion of Abraham and the Hebrews is a false one.
Zorochristian Mithraism is one particular modern attempt to create an organized religious framework for people today to engage with. It tries to match the needs of the current time with references back to the wisdom of the past. These sources include Zoroastrianism, Christianity and Greek philosophy. Zorochristian Mithraism is not a fully settled thing and not all Zorochristians may agree that the current iteration of Zorochristian Mithraism has got everything right, but we believe it provides a useful starting point.
One important element of Zorochristian Mithraism is a family of seven cosmic beings called the Kosmikoi. Another element is a trinity of holy saints : Zoroaster, Jesus and Saint George. A third is a list of seven wise philosophers who are given special attention.
English Zorochristians add English elements to the foundations provided by Zorochristian Mithraism. Of particular importance is the figure of Saint Alfred the Great.
