Oslords

Oslords are literally 'spirit-governors', but what we might call 'divine personalities'. They are the cosmic power in action in some particular way.

The Oslords each have a particular character which means that they bring a characteristic attitude and energy to bear on any particular kind of situation.

There are potentially many kinds of Oslords but Tiewists focus on twelve of them.

The Heavenly Parents

The Heavenly Parents are Tiew and Frigga:

Tiew is a god of good social order, of justice, of good relations between people, a god of civilization. Tiew can be identified with the Heavenly Father or Cosmic Father - the male god who brings into existence the ordered world that humans inhabit.

Frigga is the Heavenly Mother or Cosmic Mother who provides the nurturing conditions that brings living beings into existence and provides the conditions for them to survive, grow and flourish.

Tiew and Frigga work together to provide the basic conditions for life to flourish with the support of other more specialized gods.

The Threelords

The Threelords are Athel the Noble One , Balder the Servant and Loki the Lustful.

The Fivelords

We recognize five further gods in particular:

Hemdal - a sensitive listening god who is acutely alert to what is happening around him.

Thunor - a god of anger in the case of bad treatment who is willing to strike out to rectify a bad situation.

Freya - a goddess of passionate desire.

Wayland - a god of technical skill, a craftsman. Wayland has a cool calculating mind able to see complex phenomena and the interaction of their parts and has the knowledge and skill to interact productively with them.

Woden the Son - a god of sustained high energy able to break through rigid patterns of thought and of activity to create new ideas and new situations.

The Two Ghosts

The Two Ghosts are Holyghost and Evilghost.

The Oslords can be arranged in two families of seven:

First Family

The First family is Tiew, Frigga, Hemdal, Thunor, Freya, Wayland, Woden.

In the first family all the members are considered peers, or brothers and sisters, all on the same level as each other. Each member has a particular character and therefore kinds of activities which they are particularly suited to do.

Second Family

The Second family is Tiew, Frigga, Athel, Balder, Loki, Holyghost and Evilghost.

In the Second Family Tiew and Frigga can be imagined as the parents, Athel, Balder and Loki as their three children, and the Holyghost and Evilghost as two non-human beings who are also present in the household.

The concept of the Second Family is perhaps the most important part of Tiewism. It plays something of the same function as the Holy Trinity in trinitarian Christianity.

Tiew and Frigga are considered the Heavenly Father and Mother. Together they produce the ordered world where life is situated. Frigga is the mother who provides what is needed for new life to come into being and grow. Tiew is the father who keeps relations between different beings in good order to achieve the best conditions for the common flourishing.

Athel is the first human child of Tiew and Frigga. Athel is the Noble One, considered the epitomy of traditional pre-Christian noble values. Athel is strong and capable. He knows his own mind and is not easily deflected by others. He desires to forge his own path and not be under somebody else's wing. He wants to be a person of worth, who brings prosperity and well-being to the people he belongs to. He is able and ready to fight to defend himself and his community.

Balder is the second child of Tiew and Frigga. He desires to be a servant to others, not to serve their arbitrary wishes, but to serve their real needs. Balder is not concerned for himself but seeks out the good of others.

Loki is the third child of Tiew and Frigga. Sadly he lacks the natural compassion of Athel and Balder and strives for his own personal gain. Any way that works will do for him.

The Holyghost and Evilghosts are spirits who inhabit the household and have an impact on its residents. The Holyghost is a loving spirit which seeks to kindle selfless love and the desire to see others grow and bloom and be happy. The Evilghost is its opposite and desires to see destruction and unhappiness.
