Going with the Flow Have you ever had a coincidence happen to you? I bet you have. Have you ever had one that seemed to have great personal meaning? Or a coincidence that you couldn't work out how it happened, but you're glad it did? Or one that seemed to prove that what you were doing was right … or wrong? These kinds of special coincidences are sometimes called Synchronicity. But if you lived through the '60s and '70s, you'll have heard it called Going with the Flow! Years ago, the pagan peoples who lived around here called it the effects of Wyrd - that's W Y R D. (usually pronounced as 'weird'). Wyrd’s an interesting idea. The Anglo-Saxon word - “Wyrd” - means "that which has become". It's the idea that everything everywhere is connected in some way. Things that happen in one place will affect things elsewhere, no matter how slightly. Imagine a web of things, people and events that are all interconnected. The old Anglo-Saxons weren't the only ones to recognise this web of Wyrd. You'll find the idea mentioned all over the world. The wise men of India knew about it more than three thousand years ago. The Romans knew about it. Native Americans knew about it. They also knew that big events cause ripples in this web. And they knew that you can look at those ripples to get a better idea of the big picture. The patterns of our lives are reflected in the patterns of things outside ourselves. Stormerne Hunt-Anschütz
