St. Alfred the Great |
SAINT ALFRED THE GREAT (Born 849. Died 899. Feast: 26th October) A number of people have venerated King Alfred the Great as a saint, and he is sometimes listed in compilations of saints. (e.g. - St.Alfred) We believe that he has not been officially canonised, although King Henry VIth petitioned the pope to this effect in 1441. We celebrate his feast day on the 26th October, the day of his death. We acknowledge the Goldern Wyvern of the Kings of Wessex as his personal banner: ![]() For more on the life of St. Alfred please see: In praise of the Great Alfred The Life of Alfred the Great A prayer to Alfred Alfred and the cakes Alfred & our common law (Lee 2000) (PDF) |
